KUCHING, Aug 28: TVS scored a double win at the VIMA Music Awards 2026, taking home the Silver Award for Best Chinese Song and a Top 5 spot in the Best Ethnic Song category.
TVS Head of Creative Content Jamal Abdullah said the double recognition highlights the potential of local talents to compete on the international stage, further cementing TVS’ growing list of creative achievements.
“There are many talented performers and artists here. Now, since we are based here and not in the Klang Valley, where most of the other major broadcasters are based, we are in a position to help bring Borneo artists forward.
“Our Borneo talents have to be unearthed, given a platform and the opportunity to perform and appear in national forums such as Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) and other programmes at the national level,” he said during a media interview at the TVS town hall in CityOne Megamall here today.
Jamal said TVS had been producing original songs for major festive occasions as part of its efforts to reflect Sarawak’s multiracial identity and promote unity.
He said TVS was now expanding its music productions beyond festive seasons to include patriotic occasions such as Hari Malaysia and Hari Sarawak.
“We will follow the theme and occasion and create songs accordingly. We have composers, creators, and talented singers within the station, as well as artists from outside the station who can be invited to perform,” he said.
The Silver Award for Best Chinese Song went to ‘Echoes of Prosperity’, featuring Morris and Raquel and composed by Galvin Patrick.
Produced in conjunction with last year’s Chinese New Year celebrations, the song blends uplifting melodies with festive elements celebrating prosperity, happiness, reunion and togetherness.
Raquel said Galvin and Alia invited her to collaborate with Morris on the song, despite the challenge of losing her voice while battling flu and a heavy cough during recording.
Meanwhile, Morris said he enjoyed working on the project and hoped to collaborate on more music projects in the future.
“I hope I can do more projects like this, and that we can bring more Sarawak music to the world,” he said.
TVS also received Top 5 recognition in the Best Ethnic Song category for ‘Nostalgia Raya’, featuring Alia Tenor and Bob Yusuf and composed by Galvin Patrick.
Produced for last year’s Hari Raya celebrations, ‘Nostalgia Raya’ captures the festive season’s warmth and nostalgia through themes of homecoming, family gatherings and cherished traditions.
With Sarawak set to host the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) in September, Jamal said TVS was moving in the same direction by giving Borneo talents more opportunities to be seen.
He said TVS would continue working with industry players to showcase local talents through national-level programmes and platforms.
