KUCHING, March 13: An underwhelming response of only 5.17 million or 21 per cent of all Malaysians have registered via MySejahtera application for Covid-19 vaccination.

Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said as of March 10, only 345,646 Malaysians have secured appointment and 223,923 have taken the Pfizer vaccines.

Thus, he urged the people to quickly register themselves in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in order to effectively flatten the curve of the infection.

At the same time, he reminded members of the public not to believe in rumours and false reporting pertaining to the vaccine that are widely circulated via social media aimed at creating unnecessary fear and confusion.

He emphasised the adverse effects the pandemic has brought onto the society, especially in terms of the nation’s economy.

“It was estimated that Malaysia suffered RM2.4 billion losses per day during the first Movement Control Order (MCO) and RM300 million daily during the second MCO this year.

“We cannot be in lockdown forever. That is why it is crucial for everyone to take the vaccine so that we can fully open up businesses and can execute the various recovery programmes to aid the economy,” he said during a Malaysia Prihatin programme held at Kampung Buntal Community Centre here today.

The Malaysia Prihatin (Malaysia Cares) is a government-led nationwide programme to spread awareness, aspirations and hopes of all Malaysians in combating the Covid-19 pandemic and to educate the public on the National Covid-19 immunisation programme.
