KUCHING, April 21: Stop open burning while Sarawak is experiencing a dry season, urges Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said according to reports provided by the Sarawak Department of Environment (DOE), Natural Resources And Environment Board (NREB), and Meteorological Department of Sarawak in a recent SDMC meeting, the average temperature in Sarawak has increased.

“And a few days ago, the API (Air Pollution Index) or the air quality index is over 50, which means it’s unhealthy.

“So, please take care of yourselves, follow the advice of your doctors, and also please do not carry out open burning.

“Let us all work together. If you witness any open burning activities, please report to the authorities, either Bomba, the police, or the Department of Environment so that immediate actions can be taken to put out the fire,” said Uggah, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman.

In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, he also advised Sarawakians not to be complacent because Covid-19 is still around.

Uggah, who is also Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, urged those who are feeling unwell to quickly seek professional help in clinics or hospitals.

If one is Covid-19 positive, he urged the people not to worry because there are now pills to cure Covid-19.

“Now there is a cure for Covid-19. So, if you’re detected with Covid-19, see the doctor and then you can recover fast,” he said. — DayakDaily
