KUCHING, April 21: With the new Covid-19 variant ‘Arcturus’ detected in Sarawak, Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian has urged all Sarawakians to not to be lax when it comes to personal hygiene.

“The new variant of Covid-19 has emerged. Remember to practice good habits such as wearing a face mask in crowded places, as well as washing and sanitising hands frequently,” he said.

He also advised those who feel unwell to get immediate treatment and isolate themselves for a safe Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

On another matter, Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Local Government and Housing, warned the public against rabies.

“We also must be careful with rabies which landed in Sarawak in 2017. There are more humans who died from rabies this year than last year.

“So, please be careful and make sure that all your pets especially dogs are fully vaccinated,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message.

On the subject of the environment, Dr Sim stressed that climate change is happening globally, including in Sarawak.

He said the flash flood in March, and haze this month in April, are unusual phenomena caused by climate change.

He, therefore, reminded all Sarawakians to take care of their health especially during this dry season which coincides with the Aidilfitri celebration. — DayakDaily
