KUCHING, Dec 10: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N37 Bukit Saban constituency Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said accusations, lies and insinuations spread by Opposition candidates were intended to paint him in a bad light.

According to Uggah, the lies and insinuations ranged from cronyism, lack of development, including accusing him and his aide of profiting from big contracts from infrastructures development.

“My supporters will not be easily fooled. They have known me for a long time,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat, who accompanied Uggah during the campaigning process recently, opined that voters in Bukit Saban constituency would be making a “terrible mistake” if they rejected him this election.

Chuat pointed out that Uggah is one of the most experienced leaders, having served at both Federal and State levels.

“In Sarawak, he is a former deputy chief minister which is a very senior and respected post. Bukit Saban folks should not just throw away their blessings,” he said.

On another matter, Uggah, who is also GPS election director hopes all candidates contesting in the coming 12th State Election would comply with the election’s standard operating procedures (SOP).

He emphasised that compliance with the SOPs was very important to prevent an outbreak within the local community.

“I have also advised my campaigners to be very mindful of the SOPs. When we celebrate our victory, we also celebrate our health. We do not want what had happened in Sabah during its state election to happen here in Sarawak.

“On the same note, I hope those enforcement officers will keep a close eye on all the candidates in their movement. Ensure that nobody breaches the SOPs,” he added. — DayakDaily
