KUCHING, July 13: Professional assessment by the National Security Council (NSC) has been carried out prior to allowing Sarawak to enter Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said the assessment by NSC concluded that Sarawak has met threshold requirements in terms of number of cases per 100,000 people, capacity of medical facilities and rate of vaccination for qualified recipients (18 years and above).

“For Sarawak to enter the second phase of the NRP by NSC, it is not done hastily, but after a professional study (by NSC) after we met all the three thresholds,” Uggah told a press conference today during a visit to a vaccination centre at Bayur Health Clinic along Jalan Borneo Heights.

Uggah, who is the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) pointed out that the State government was still mindful of its commitment towards curbing the Covid-19 pandemic in the State, despite entering into Phase II of the NRP.

“Despite entering into the 2nd Phase of the NRP, we are mindful that Covid-19 is still in our midst, so we will remain vigilant,” Uggah stressed, while urging people to strictly comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The State enters into Phase 2 of the NRP tomorrow, but with strict compliance to SOPs.

Uggah also said that he was satisfied with the progress of mobile outreach teams established to reach rural and remote areas in the State to vaccinate eligible people.

“Our mobile teams are doing very well to get the people in remote areas vaccinated,” he said, adding that he did not have the statistics concerning those who already gotten their vaccination to give offhand.

Uggah also attributed the downward trend of Covid-19 cases in the State for the past few days due to SOP compliance by the public, which should continue.

Also present during the visit were Assistant Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, who is the Mambong assemblyman, Deputy State Secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and Dr Arvin Thiagarajah from Bayur Health Clinic. — DayakDaily
