Tyng Dance Academy sweeps 32 golds at Bailando Open Championship in Johor Bahru

KUCHING, April 29: Sarawak dance team from Tyng Dance Academy achieved an impressive overall medal tally of 32 gold, 18 silver, and 14 bronze medals, alongside multiple finalist placements in both national and international-level categories at the Bailando Open Championship (BOC) 2026, held from 24 to 26 April in Johor Bahru.

Competing against participants from across Asia, the Sarawak-based team demonstrated consistency, technical precision, and strong stage presence across multiple divisions.

According to a media release today, a major highlight of the campaign was Tyng Dance Academy being crowned Malaysia National Champion in both the Youth and Junior II categories (MYDF), marking a significant milestone that further reinforces the academy’s depth of talent across competitive levels.

Among the standout performers, Claudin Tay Jiayen delivered a dominant performance with 10 gold medals, excelling in both the Adult and University Open Solo Latin categories across all five dances. She also secured a Top 10 finish in the WDSF World Open Solo Latin Female Adult category, highlighting her ability to compete at an international standard.

In the youth category, Trisha Yap Tai Qii emerged as Malaysia National Champion in the MYDF Closed Solo Latin Female Youth division, alongside multiple podium finishes and a Top 8 placement in the WDSF World Open category, reflecting her steady rise in higher-level competition.

Jayda Chang Xu Ern also made her mark by clinching the Malaysia National Champion title in the MYDF Closed Solo Latin Female Junior II category. She added several podium finishes and achieved a Top 6 placement in the WDSF World Open Solo Latin Female Junior II category, strengthening Sarawak’s presence in the junior international circuit.

Other notable achievements included Jovanna Goh Yi Xian, who secured an impressive 10 gold medals across the Juvenile I and Children categories, positioning herself as one of the most promising young talents in her division.

Jovina Wong Xin En contributed 5 gold medals alongside multiple podium and finalist placements, while Ariella Tang Chen Xin delivered consistent results with 3 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze medal across various categories.
Chloe Tay added 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals, showing steady performance in newcomer divisions, while Bong Ker Chien gained valuable experience through multiple placements in the Junior II category.

Commenting on the achievement, Tyng Dance Academy founder and principal Chan Tyng Tyng said the results were a reflection of the process behind performance rather than isolated success.

“These results reflect consistency in training, clarity in direction, and the willingness of our dancers to grow through every stage of their journey.
