Two men jailed 5 years for possessing Japanese sword

Both accused were escorted out from the courtroom after the sentencing.

KUCHING, Aug 11: The Sessions Court here sentenced two men to two-years imprisonment each for illegal possession of a weapon in the form of a Japanese sword.

Muhammad Khairul Azmi, 30 and Abdul Rahim Othman, 29 pleaded guilty to the charge framed before Sessions Court Judge Maris Agan.


Judge Maris Agan accepted their plea of guilty and sentenced them to imprisonment of five years each.

They were found illegally possessing a 25cm-long Japanese sword at a house in Kampung Siol Kandis, at about 10.20am on Aug 3 this year.

They were charged under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term between five years and ten years, upon conviction.

They were arrested by a police team from IPD Kuching during ‘Ops Rempuh Pusher’.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Ilham Kamaruddin prosecuted while both accused were unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
