TSI defines good leadership as clean, competent and law-abiding

TSI committee and members met aspiring leaders recently, a year after organising the successful TSI Leadership Programme.

KUCHING, July 25: Good leaders must be competent and honest, with zero tolerance for corruption, operating within the rule of law and not according to their caprices, says The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI) chairman Datuk John Tenewi.

He emphasised the need to produce great leaders for the future of Sarawak.

“In our borderless world today, where many countries and their people are making great progress, we in Sarawak need good leaders to take us through this 21st century. Sarawakians do not wish to be left behind in this fast-moving globalised world.”

John reminded that good leaders must exhibit strong characteristics, with a clear vision and long-term ideas on what needs to be done, with a solid commitment to realising their goals.

Adding that good leaders must be able to build and command a competent, honest, and cooperative team, he said a leader must work for the interest of the people and organisation that they lead and not for their own interests.

“Bright leaders can only emerge when we have a good education system throughout the process of nation building. Therefore, TSI’s first main objective is to ensure Sarawak pursues a high level and standard of education.

“The world is changing at lightning speed, especially in the fields of science, technology, communication, and commerce. We will be further left behind if we do not adapt to the rapid changes taking place,” John said in his address.

TSI committee and members met aspiring leaders recently, a year after organising the successful TSI Leadership Programme on July 22, 2021, with some 600 registered participants and delivery of 26 lectures covering a wide array of topics on politics, economics, education, and social issues.

“It’s a good opportunity to let the aspiring leaders come forward while TSI will provide the platform and mentorship to groom future leaders of Sarawak,” said John, whose speech was quoted in a press statement.

According to the press statement of TSI, this was a meeting with the first batch of aspiring leaders, and more meetings will come soon.

During the meeting, TSI aspiring leaders presented their visions and dreams for a better Sarawak.

Each participant delivered their speeches on various topics covering education, economics, and youth development and participation in politics.

“Sarawakians who aspire to become future leaders may contact TSI to be included in the leadership programme that provides a good network and grooming opportunity. TSI may be contacted through its website www.thesarawakinitiatives.org,” said John. — DayakDaily
