KUCHING, March 8: Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing stressed that the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme is open to applicants from all countries worldwide, not just China.

He pointed out that this programme has no “hidden agenda” that could be detrimental to Malaysia’s development.

“The MM2H programme is a policy that allows foreign nationals to apply for residency under various eligibility criteria.

“It is open to applicants from all countries worldwide, not just China. Successful applicants receive a residency pass for a specific period, enabling them to live and spend their money in Malaysia.

“This contributes to our economic growth and generates national revenue. Even Malaysians apply for residency in other countries under similar conditions,” he said on his Facebook post today.

This was in response to allegations by veteran politician Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim, who made mocking remarks on his Facebook page and claimed that 22,000 Chinese nationals had obtained permanent residency in Malaysia through the MM2H programme.

Tiong strongly refuted Rais Yatim’s claims, condemning them as irresponsible and warning that such statements could sow unnecessary confusion among the public.

Rais Yatim’s mocking remarks in a recent post on his Facebook page.

“I am puzzled by Rais Yatim’s extreme stance. He once held important positions in the Cabinet, yet now repeatedly criticizes various issues and misleads the public about MM2H.

“It must be understood that his irresponsible statements can create unnecessary confusion among the people.

“In a multiracial country like Malaysia, misleading narratives like this can spark racial tension and division, potentially leading to serious consequences such as racial discord or social conflict. Does Rais Yatim want to see Malaysia—after 67 years of progress—fall apart just like that?” he said.

“Such actions could damage MM2H’s international reputation. Worse still, this irresponsible rhetoric could deter foreign investors from doing business in Malaysia, undermining efforts to position Malaysia as a thriving investment hub,” he added. – DayakDaily
