MIRI, Jan 16: Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail has given his assurance that the police will conduct an in-depth investigation into a rape incident involving a 16-year-old girl.

She is alleged to have been raped by a male detainee while in police custody early this month.

The incident occurred at the Miri police station lock-up on January 9.

“We will carry out a comprehensive investigation over this incident, to determine whether there’s any negligence involved on our side,” he said when contacted today (Saturday).

“Two policemen on-duty manning the lock-up on that day have been immediately suspended temporarily while the investigations are being carried out, he said.

“We have suspended the two police personnel, and currently investigation is being carried out,” he explained.

Aidi disclosed that the suspect, aged 19, has been brought to court for the offence.
