LUNDU, Nov 11: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has apologised to the people for any shortcomings and mistakes that the party, its leaders, incumbents or past representatives have made.

“As the president of PDP, I apologise for all the mistakes that we have made previously when we were still in Barisan Nasional (BN). We are all human beings and unable to avoid committing any mistakes. We definitely have our drawbacks.

“This time, I humbly seek your consideration to give us another chance and let our Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Lidang Disen be the one looking after Mas Gading.

“Let us all give and take, and solve the problems together. We will cooperate with the people to rectify our mistakes and do better by making things move forward for the sake of the people,” Tiong said when met after officiating at the ‘Leaders with People Programme’ at Kampung Pasir Hulu here, today.

Touching on Mas Gading incumbent Mordi Bimol who is from Democratic Action Party (DAP), Tiong asked the crowd what they have experienced over the last five years under the Opposition.

Mas Gading consists of two State seats namely Opar and Tasik Biru, both of which were won by GPS’ Billy Sujang and Dato Henry Harry Jinep respectively in the last State Election.

After the State Election, Tiong asserts that both assemblymen has proven themselves and did a lot for the people in less than one year.

“Although some projects are small, they are still helping the people and that is the most important thing. It proves that when GPS promises something, we will honour it.

“On the other hand, I am sure the people in Mas Gading have seen and felt what the incumbent has done for them over the last five years.

“Similar to his party logo which is a rocket, the incumbent flew high up to the moon after he won in the 14th General Election. Where did he go after that? He was nowhere to be seen until recently because it is election time,” Tiong claimed.

Meanwhile, he assured that GPS will look into rectifying the system when it comes to giving out tenders and executing big projects.

Acknowledging there are delays, Tiong asked for the people to understand the system and procedures involved, and at times there are technical errors in planning or somewhere in between.

“This is something we want to change. Rectify the outdated system and red tape for the sake of speeding up the people’s projects,” he added.

Tiong is also defending his Bintulu seat in the 15th General Election (GE15). He has been Bintulu MP since 1999. — DayakDaily
