KUCHING, Nov 11: The Sarawak government has allocated more than RM200 million to construct the new i-CATS University College campus near Kampung Trombol in Telaga Air.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the new campus, will bein construction next year.

“It aims to offer more educational opportunities to the people of Sarawak regardless of race,” he said during the Islamic Youth Randau Programme held at the Islamic Complex Hall here today.

Abang Johari said the cost of building the new campus will be fully borne by the Sarawak government.

“Since I became leader, Sarawak’s income has doubled, and during my 40-year career as a leader, the highest State income I saw was RM6 billion, but today it is worth RM10 billion.

“That’s why I have the courage to build a new i-CATS University College campus in Kampung Trombol. We already have the money,” he explained.

He added when the construction of the new campus is completed, it will provide more opportunities for the people of this State to gain new knowledge and skills.

On the same note, Abang Johari said, as a result of the increase in income for Sarawak, the Sarawak government also has taken over and owns 100 percent of the assets of Swinburne University, Curtin University, and Sarawak University of Technology (UTS) in Sibu. — DayakDaily
