KUCHING, Jan 3: Sarawak has many interesting locations that could be used for filming, said Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak deputy minister Datuk Sebastian Ting.

According to a news report published today by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Ting emphasised that Sarawak is an ideal filming location for film directors and film producers to shoot in.

“Sarawak has many places to visit, diverse cultures, ethnic groups, and more. Sarawak is an excellent location for filming.

“We have the potential of so many areas that film directors and film producers can come to see and film,” he said at a press conference on Monday (Jan 2) following a special screening of the film “Little Sunshine” at the TGV cinema in Permaisuri Imperial City Mall in Miri.

He revealed that the screening of the film “Little Sunshine”, which will be officially screened in cinemas across Malaysia on Jan 19, will help to promote Miri Division.

He believed that it will pique the audience’s interest in learning more about Miri and increase the number of tourists visiting the city.

In addition, Ting, who is also Piasau assemblyman, disclosed that his ministry aims to attract three million tourists to Sarawak.

For the record, the main character in the film “Little Sunshine” was played by Louis Lau Heng Kai, a 10-year-old from Miri.

Lau was chosen from over 300 candidates in an online talent test in 2020, and the film was released in May 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also present at the event were Miri mayor and Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang and film executive producer Aron Koh Kang Boon. — DayakDaily
