KUCHING, June 30: Sarawak Energy promptly responded to a request for assistance to repair and overhaul SK Labang’s generator sets supplying the school with electricity.
The affected buildings include teacher quarters, administrative blocks and student hostels.
In a statement the Ministry of Utilities said that Sarawak Energy which is an agency under the ministry is expected to carry out this community relief effort which is to be fully completed within the next two months.
The ministry added that works on the generator sets will also be staggered to avoid total disruption of power.
“This effort will bring temporary relief to the school but the permanent solution will be to connect nearby rural schools to the power grid,” the ministry said.
The ministry also elaborated that in a recent press statement, its minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said 113 schools are expected to benefit from the power grid supply through an initial Sarawak government allocation of RM50 million and urged the Federal Ministry of Education to expedite entry into rural schools for Sarawak Energy to begin work. — DayakDaily
