KUCHING, May 26: Applicants seeking to upgrade their electricity capacity at their premises from single-phase to three-phase must bear the connection costs and apply through Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy).

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said this during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today, adding that the cost of the connection for such upgrades will be borne by the applicants themselves.

He said this in response to a query by Tamin assemblyman, Christopher Gira Sambang, during the motion of appreciation on the TYT’s address.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg first revealed that the Sarawak government had committed over RM150 million to enhance the electricity grid network in the region on November 1, 2024.

On January 25, 2025, Abang Johari shared that he had instructed Sarawak Energy to upgrade the existing electrical circuits to reach a capacity of 500 kilovolts (kV) to ensure an adequate and reliable power supply in rural areas following the residents’ evolving lifestyles. –DayakDaily
