MIRI, June 30: A 30-year-old man has been detained by police here after he allegedly threatened three different women in one day and assaulted a security guard of a recreation park at Jalan Kipas.

The suspect is currently under police custody for questioning.

Miri Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted confirmed the suspect who is from Pujut 2 here, was picked up by the police after he ran away armed with hair scissors and hid himself inside a room of a nearby building next to the City Fan Park on Friday morning.

While inside the room, he threatened a cleaning staff of the building using the scissors.

“He also did something similar to another cleaning staff outside the room and told them to keep quiet or they would die,” said Lim.

It was also learnt that earlier that morning, another woman had a terrifying encounter after allegedly being threatened by the suspect while walking alone at a park.

She immediately informed the park’s on-duty security guard, prompting the security personnel to go to the area and conduct a check.

“The security guard eventually found the suspect but was punched in the face, after he ordered him (the suspect) to leave the area,” said Lim.

He added, the suspect was allegedly vandalising facilities in the area when the security personnel found him.

The case is being investigated under Section 322 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation. — DayakDaily
