KUCHING, May 22: Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has slammed Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong for making “ill-informed” and “unsubstantiated” claims against Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), warning that her remarks risk undermining investor confidence in Sarawak.

He noted that Yong, in her debate speech yesterday (May 21), alleged that Sarawak Energy was not delivering fast enough, resulting in Sarawak losing potential investors.

She also claimed that investors are aware the announced hydrogen projects—namely H2biscus and H2ornbill—have yet to begin operations, and that investors are not interested in development potential projected 10 years into the future.

“What Pending is doing is scaring away investors when a member of this house is ill-informed about our economic development initiative and by making unsubstantiated allegation.

“She is the one costing Sarawak the investors,” he said during the debate on the motion of appreciation on the address by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.

Fazzrudin also pointed out the irony of Yong’s remarks, which came on the same day Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim—Pakatan Harapan chairman and a leader from the same coalition as Yong—praised Sarawak as a rising energy powerhouse in ASEAN.

He stressed that what Yong failed to understand is that, in business and economic development, every plan must be implemented and studied with consideration for the next three, five, or even ten years.

“This is the crucial information that investors need before making a decision to invest in a particular location, state, or country.

“This information is important because it reflects how Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) operates—by looking towards the future of the nation and our State, unlike what was suggested by Pending,” he added.

Fazzrudin also emphasised that Sarawak is making significant progress toward achieving its energy generation targets and realising both the Borneo Grid and the ASEAN Power Grid.

“To me, it appears she does not have Sarawak’s best interests at heart and is more interested in finding issues where there is none to serve her political interest.

“I really wish Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) would emulate the standard of their national secretary general [Anthony Loke] so they can become a useful and quality opposition for the sake of Sarawak,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
