KUCHING, June 13: A total of 2,002 indigenous tree saplings have been planted at Sabal Forest Reserve yesterday (June 12) under a continuing joint reforestation initiative by the Sarawak Energy Berhad, Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) and the Department of Environment Sarawak (DOE).
The effort marks another milestone in Sarawak Energy’s 10-Year Integrated Planting, Protection, and Habitat Conservation Campaign (2021–2030), which supports the Greening Sarawak Campaign led by FDS.
The planting effort also contributes to the national 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign (2021–2025) under the Greening Malaysia Agenda.
More than 160 participants from Sarawak Energy, FDS and DOE and local communities took part in the event, working together to plant high-value native species including belian, meranti and selangan to boost biodiversity and enhance the long-term ecological health of the forest landscape.
FDS, in a statement, underscored the importance of multi-agency collaboration in ensuring the success of forest restoration efforts, while reaffirming its commitment to preserving Sarawak’s rich natural heritage for future generations.
Also present at the event were DOE Sarawak director John Rampai, Sarawak Energy senior vice president for Contract & Procurement Yusri Safri, vice president for Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Marconi Madai, and FDS Restoration and Industrial Forest Division officer Mostapha Kamal. – DayakDaily
