BAU, Sept 13: Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep proposes the merging of Bau district and Lundu district to form a new administrative division.
According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Harry who is also Transport Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine) justified his proposal by stating that the population of Bau district in 2022 will be 72,000, compared to Serian’s population of 60,000 when it was elevated to a division.
During the Bau District Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) Appreciation Ceremony which was held at the Bau Auditorium on Sept 11, Harry explained that Lundu was to be included so that the district will not be left out.
He called on Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan to bring this matter to the Sarawak Legislative Assembly which is expected to be held next month.
Meanwhile, during the appreciation ceremony, a total of 23 newly appointed Bau District KMKK Bidayuh leaders went through a traditional installation ceremony led by Bidayuh Temenggong Dato Austin Dimin Niyon.
Also participating in the ceremony were Pemanca Bidayuh of Bau District Robert Tom Juin, Penghulu Morris John Siren and Penghulu William Morfor Misek.
