KUCHING, May 12: The Tanjung Embang deep-sea port and gas terminal project is scheduled to begin operations in 2032 as part of efforts to expand the State’s maritime and energy infrastructure.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi said the project is being developed by the State government in collaboration with PETROS as part of broader efforts to strengthen logistics capacity and support industrial growth.
“The project would include both deep-sea port facilities and a gas terminal, positioning Tanjung Embang as one of Sarawak’s key strategic maritime developments,” he said.
He said this when responding to Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon during the question-and-answer session at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
He added that the development is aligned with the State’s wider infrastructure planning under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which prioritises logistics efficiency and export-oriented growth.
The project forms part of Sarawak’s long-term plan to enhance its port infrastructure network to support trade, energy and industrial activities. — DayakDaily
