KUCHING, Nov 21: In the government’s efforts to make obtaining identification documents (IDs) easier, the community should also play their part in registering marriages and births.

In a Facebook post dated Nov 19, Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi elaborated that community leaders play an essential role in helping the federal and Sarawak governments to solve statelessness in the State.

“The issue of not having any ID has received the attention of the federal and Sarawak governments—prompting the Home Affairs Ministry to establish a special task force (PPK) to address the issue of Sarawak residents without IDs since July this year,” said Nanta.

Nanta, who is also Works Minister, said the issue is more prominent in rural areas, and various efforts are being carried out to help stateless individuals obtain legal IDs in compliance with legal procedures.

He also accompanied Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on a working visit to Rumah Rantai and Rumah Garing in Kapit recently to discuss the issue of statelessness. — DayakDaily
