MIRI, May 8: Last year, Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS) spent RM30.18 million in education programme funding to assist students from low-income groups.
TBS general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie said the assistance was given to students to help them during their first month in higher learning institutions upon receiving offer letters.
A total 16,920 students benefited from the assistance.
“This year, for the period of January to March, we have disbursed RM5.41 million to 2,650 underprivileged students,” he told reporters today when met during TBS’s Raya Open House in Miri.
The open house attracted more than 200 visitors to the 5th floor of the Sarawak Islamic Complex here.
Among those attending the event was Miri Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad. — DayakDaily
