KUCHING, March 9: The zakat fitrah (tithe) rate in Sarawak has been set at RM7.50 per person this year.

Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS) general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie said the rate set by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) is not that much different from that of other states in Malaysia.

“For me, RM7.50 is a rate that our Muslim community can afford to pay, and they can fulfil their respective responsibilities from as early as the first to the last day of Ramadan,” he told a press conference at Ummah Distribution Centre (UDC) gallery in Jalan Demak here today.

He also said various methods of payment of zakat fitrah are available through the TBS counter system, including 788 certified amils (collectors) appointed throughout the State.

Amils are usually found in surau or mosques in village areas, with some even getting permission from TBS to be in supermarkets or shopping centres in the State.

“In addition, there are also online payment methods through the online portal of Baitulmal Kamek, TBS, and the Sarawak Pay mobile app, as well as online banking channels involving various banks to facilitate young people in particular,” he added. — DayakDaily
