KUCHING, May 20: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) is still standing strong because it fights for all Sarawakians, not just the Sarawak Chinese, says its president, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said since SUPP’s establishment in 1969, the party had endured its ‘ups and downs’, but it continues to stay strong, make amends, and adapt to new environments according to the changing of time.

Dr Sim, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, reiterated that SUPP is not a Chinese party but a multiracial party.

“We are not a Chinese party. If not, no matter what we do, we only represent 20 per cent of the population, which does not represent Sarawak.

“From 1969 until now, some parties have already disappeared, but why does SUPP still exist?

“It’s because we fight for all Sarawakians, not only for the Sarawak Chinese,” he said at the SUPP Kota Sentosa branch’s 15th-anniversary celebration earlier today.

Amongst those present during the event were Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting; Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang; Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, and Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang. — DayakDaily
