SUPP Mambong chief: S’wak’s diversity worthy of emulation

KUCHING, March 25: Diversity in Sarawak is a model worthy of emulation by other states in Malaysia, says Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Mambong branch chairman Andrew Victor Nub.

According to Andrew, the people of Sarawak, under the governance of the current Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, have shown how differences in cultures, religions, and backgrounds can be depicted as harmony cultivating ground through inter-ethnic tolerance.

“To us Sarawakians, different religions are not a hindrance to living in harmony and have never been an issue that obstructs our unity.

“Indeed, the Sarawak government has been supportive in assisting the development of religious faiths other than Islam through the establishment of Unit for Other Religions (Unifor),” said Andrew in a statement today.

He was echoing the remark of Sarawak’s Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, over the ‘Jom Ziarah Gereja’ programme issue by the Federal Youth and Sports Ministry recently.

Andrew, who is also SUPP Central Working Committee member, said it’s an undeniable fact that individuals from this nation comprise different ethnicities with diversified religious faith.

He stressed that for the well-being of all, it’s crucial for everyone to demonstrate respect and tolerance towards each other.

“I wish to highlight here that the members of our party are multi-racial with different religious beliefs, which include Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, and many others.

“Within SUPP and GPS, we manage to embrace these differences and collaborate towards the progression of Sarawak, which I think should be practised by other fellow Malaysians as well,” he added. — DayakDaily
