PH govt urged to solve water issue in Penrissen & Padawan

KUCHING, Sept 23: Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is urged to take necessary steps to solve the scarcity of clean water, especially drinking water faced by villagers in Kampung Biya Jaber along Jalan Penrissen, here.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) youth central deputy chairman Andrew Victor Nub lamented that because of the persistent dry spell and haze in the last few weeks, the water sources in the village had dried up making it difficult for the villagers to have access to clean water for their daily consumption.

Andrew, who is also SUPP Mambong youth chief expressed his gratitude to Sarawak’s Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian for his immediate reaction to get drinking water supplied to the residents of Kampung Biya Jaber via the Department of Welfare Sarawak.

He said this after the recent handover of 270 boxes of drinking water from the officials of  the Department of Welfare to Biya Jaber Village head Ephesian K. Sogod.

Andrew further pointed out that the relief by the Department of Welfare was only a short remedy to address the water shortage issue that bothered the villagers.

“The water project for Puncak Borneo constituency had been approved by the federal government under the Ministry of Rural Development to address the water supply for the residents in upper Penrissen and Padawan area.

“However, there is no news on the initiative at the moment. I hope that MP for Puncak Borneo YB Willie Mongin would be willing to bring this matter to the Minister of Rural Development to seek the ministry’s help to expedite the project,” said Andrew. — DayakDaily
