Special committee set up to scrutinise new Miri Central Bus Terminal, construction now at 50 pct completion

MIRI, Dec 30: Miri City Council (MCC) has set up a special committee under the Urban Infrastructure Standing Committee to oversee and scrutinise the ongoing construction of the new Miri Central Bus Terminal project which is currently 50.45 per cent completed.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Miri Mayor Adam Yii explained that the committee will look at the needs and ensure that the project can be completed on schedule.

“The special committee under the Urban Infrastructure Standing Committee which is chaired by councillor Abdullah will meet every month to get updates on the progress of the project.


“With that, we will know if there is any delay and the need for actions to be taken immediately if any issue arises,” he told reporters after a visit to inspect the new Miri Central Bus Terminal project at Jalan Cahaya Lopeng yesterday (Dec 29).

On the project, Yii who is also Pujut assemblyman, revealed that the project costing RM26 million million is currently five per cent behind original schedule.

The new Miri Central Bus Terminal spanning 10,845.7 square metres will replace the old Miri bus terminal located at Jalan Padang Kerbau which will be turned into an agro wholesale market.

“The project (new bus terminal) is very important as the public transport hub to serve the people in Miri. This is also in line with the Sarawak government’s intention to improve the public transport sector, especially public buses, to benefit the people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg performed the groundbreaking ceremony to kict start the construction of the project on Nov 15.

Deputy Miri Mayor Julaihi Mohammad, Yong Lung Construction Sdn Bhd project manager Lo Thiam Tiong and council engineers were among those present. — DayakDaily
