New Year countdown: Road closures from Jln Diplomatik, Kesuma and Stadium roundabouts

KUCHING, Dec 30: Jalan Diplomatik and the road from Kesuma roundabout up to the Stadium roundabout here will be temporarily closed to give way for the New Year Countdown celebration at Stadium Perpaduan tomorrow.

Acting Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the event is expected to commence from 7pm tomorrow to 1am the following day to facilitate the traffic flow; the police will set up two road closures from Jalan Diplomatik to the Stadium roundabout and the road from Kesuma roundabout to Stadium roundabout,” he said in a statement today.

Following the road closures, the general public who wish to attend the event are advised to use alternative routes, whereas those who come from the Sesco roundabout are advised to make a U-turn at the Casuarina roundabout and enter the Jalan Stadium (Ring) intersection.


Those coming through Jalan Diplomatik can go straight to the car park behind Stadium Sarawak.

At the same time, those exiting the venue after the event are advised to use Jalan Diplomatik leading to Demak while those exiting from Jalan Stadium (Ring) are advised to go through the road leading to Jalan Casuarina.

Supt Merbin further advised the visitors not to park their cars along the shoulder of the road and that they must plan their travel and choose alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, the public visiting and celebrating the new year around the Kuching Waterfront on the same night are advised not to park their vehicles along the shoulder of Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Tun Ahmad Hj Openg and Jalan Gambir so as not to disturb the smooth flow of traffic around the Kuching waterfront.
