KUCHING, June 27: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will be implementing the Conducive Public Sector Ecosystem (EKSA) to strengthen the management of its office environment further so that all members of the council can work in a systematic, comfortable, and conducive work environment while enhancing service delivery.
According to the council’s guidelines, the implementation of EKSA is a continuation of the implementation of 5S Practices that have been implemented before.
5S is a five-step methodology for creating a more organised and productive workspace. It was created in Japan, and the original ‘S’ terms were in Japanese, which has been translated into Malay and English:
- Sisih (Seiri; Sort): The separation and disposal of items that are not needed at work.
- Susun (Seiton; Set in order): Ensuring all equipment are in order, neat, effective, safe, and easily accessible.
- Sapu (Seiso; Shine): To ensure that the workspace or equipment is clean from dust that can affect the function of the equipment, quality, and health.
- Seragam (Seiketsu; Standardise): To standardise the order of files, work desk, meeting room and stationaries.
- Sentiasa Amal (Shitsuke; Sustain): To maintain the four 5S practices iand implement continuous improvements in the respective departments and agencies.
The guidelines then introduced five new elements in EKSA: corporate image, creativity and innovation, green practices, a conducive environment, and diversity of agencies.
“To fulfil the government’s agenda in transforming public services towards being more efficient, productive, and competitive, the management of Sibu Municipal Council has taken the initiative to implement EKSA in Sibu Municipal Council,” it said.
A logo was also revealed, with the council explaining that the circle symbolises the agreement required from all SMC citizens to make the programme successful, while the colour green indicates that it supports the Green Practice (GO Green) approach that must be present in preserving the environment.
A slogan was also introduced: ‘Conducive Environment, Productive Service Catalyst’.
“It is the council’s great hope that all members of the Council can make the Eksa practice their practice at work to create a conducive and safe work environment.” — DayakDaily
