SIBU, March 15: A 54-year-old woman was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court today for two charges of child abuse.

Judge Marutin Pagan, in sentencing the accused, Selimah Bilon, on her guilty plea, also ordered her to enter a bond of good behaviour for three years in the sum of RM5,000 in one surety.

The accused was also ordered to undergo community service for 100 hours.

Selimah, who was the guardian of the 14-year-old child, was charged under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 for the two offences.

Based on the brief facts of the case, the accused had, at about 8.30pm on January 27, in the kitchen of a longhouse in Song, caused physical injury to the victim by slapping her face, punching her right chest, and pulling her hair.

For the second offence, the accused had, at about 8.35pm on the same day, in the living room of the same longhouse, slapped the victim’s right body and scratched her neck and forehead.

Police investigation revealed that the accused had abused the victim as the victim ignored her order not to venture into their neighbour’s house and that the victim had asked for RM50 as schooling aid from her. — DayakDaily
