KUCHING, June 16: Selangor has acknowledged Sarawak as a state that should be emulated in terms of planning, developing and sustaining the growth of the creative economy sector, particularly for its structured and forward-looking approach in building a competitive creative industry ecosystem.

This recognition was expressed by Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Exco Muhammad Najwan Halimi during a three-day working visit by a Selangor state government delegation to Sarawak, aimed at studying and strengthening cooperation in the development of the creative industry and entrepreneurship.

The Selangor delegation, led by Muhammad Najwan, also paid a courtesy call on Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at his office at the Baitulmakmur II Building here today.

Abdul Karim said the Sarawak government welcomed the visit as an opportunity to deepen collaboration and exchange experiences, particularly in initiatives related to youth development.

“The visit is also closely linked to the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which will be hosted by Selangor this August, while also opening avenues for both states to explore broader cooperation in areas that can drive economic growth and nurture young talent.

“We share experiences and look at where we can collaborate to develop our respective states, especially in the creative industry and entrepreneurship, particularly involving young people and youth,” he said at a press conference as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew and Deputy Minister for Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

Abdul Karim stressed that the development of the creative industry must continue to be strengthened so its benefits can reach more entrepreneurs and industry players, particularly among the younger generation.

He said strategic cooperation between Sarawak and Selangor through knowledge-sharing, experience and expertise exchange would create more opportunities for creative industry players and young entrepreneurs, while contributing to more sustainable economic growth.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Najwan emphasised that cooperation between the two states is not limited to the short term, but instead focuses on the sharing of knowledge, skills and expertise to strengthen the development of the creative industry in Malaysia.

“Selangor chose Sarawak as a study destination due to the state’s success in planning and developing a sustainable and competitive creative industry ecosystem,” he said.

Muhammad Najwan also described Sarawak’s offer to send a team to assist in developing Selangor’s creative industry as a meaningful gesture reflecting the seriousness of both states in advancing the collaboration.

He added that the strong relationship between Sarawak and Selangor goes beyond political differences and is anchored in a shared commitment to advancing the people and strengthening Malaysia’s economy. — DayakDaily
