KUCHING, March 9: Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) president Gary Ningkan has endorsed the nomination of its current deputy president Dr Jawing Chunggat as president in its coming election of new office bearers to be conducted during its 18th annual general meeting (AGM) on March 25.

Gary, who has led the association for the past two terms, said that he will not be seeking reelection in the coming AGM to be held at Pullman Hotel that will commence at 2pm.

“I endorse Dr Jawing Chunggat’s nomination as president to lead the association for the term 2023-2025, and I seek all members’ support as well.

“It is important to constantly elevate new talents within the association, as well as to encourage new ideas to ensure the association’s growth and sustainability.

“We encourage the participation of all members to elect the new office bearers and executive committee members to steer the association for the next two years,” he said in a statement today.

With the support of the current exco, Gary said they have successfully rebranded the association to appeal to young graduates, strengthened the financial standing of SDGA, established Invent Space as its new headquarters, and built greater ties with the Sarawak government while executing various programmes in tandem with Sarawak’s development aspirations.

“Currently, SDGA has around 2,400 members, and in 2022 it has managed to register more than 1,000 new members below the age of 40 years old, resulting in increase of young members in the association from 23 per cent to over 46 per cent,

“I extend my utmost gratitude to all members that have supported the association throughout the years, as well as my well wishes to the incoming office bearers and executive committee for the term 2023-2025,” he said.

In 2022, SDGA organised two education and career fairs, a workshop on franchising with the then Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) in Kuala Lumpur as well as various Randau (networking) sessions, talks and workshops in schools in rural areas.

Moving forward, Gary emphasised that SDGA will continue to be progressive and active in playing its part in the nation’s human capital development.

“We invite members to attend and contribute ideas for the planning of future programmes as together we chart the direction of SDGA in 2023,” he called on. — DayakDaily
