KUCHING, Oct 24: The Child and Adolescent Learning and Wellbeing Centre (CALW) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in Kota Samarahan has officially become the first research hub in Sarawak dedicated to addressing the needs of children and adolescents.

According to a TVS news report, Unimas deputy vice chancellor of Research and Innovation, Professor Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib, said that the centre would offer comprehensive research insights in two key areas of focus.

“The two areas encompass support for atypical learners and addressing the loss of learning among children, as well as promoting the wellbeing of both typical and atypical youth,” she explained during the launch of the centre at the Unimas campus today.

Noor Linda highlighted that the centre’s establishment would ensure it becomes more than just an institution—an active community hub with a meaningful impact on society.

“At its core, this centre embodies the values that we uphold as a university—excellence in education, innovation, and community engagement, alongside our partnerships with various industries,” she added.

The centre is expected to play a crucial role in shaping a healthier and more inclusive future for the younger generation through its research initiatives, innovative programmes, and interdisciplinary approaches.

Noor Linda also emphasised that the activities conducted at CALW would help unlock the potential of young minds, boost self-confidence, and foster resilience in the face of challenges.

The findings from the centre, she noted, would provide essential knowledge and support not only for local and international academics but also for parents, educators, policymakers, and health professionals. — DayakDaily
