KUCHING, April 20: In a powerful act of love, a Sarawakian father is preparing to donate part of his liver to save his four-year-old son, who is battling a life-threatening condition.
But the family now faces another urgent challenge—raising RM185,000 to fund the critical second transplant in China.
Muhammad Fayyadh Hadif, aged 4 years and 2 months, has suffered from Biliary Atresia—a rare liver disease—since birth.
His 54-year-old father, Masli Hj Bojeng, said the condition was first detected when he was just two months old.
At four months, he underwent a bile duct bypass surgery at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). Follow-up treatments continued at SGH until they were referred to Tunku Azizah Hospital, Kuala Lumpur (HKL), for a recommended liver transplant.
“Fayyadh underwent his first liver transplant on March 29, 2023, but the organ donated by his mother, Hanifah Salam, later failed due to serious complications.
“In December 2024, we were informed that his blood vessels were severely blocked, and a second liver transplant was the only option,” he said when contacted today.
Masli further said the doctors have recommended a second liver transplant at Renji Hospital in Shanghai, where Fayyadh’s only chance of recovery lies.
This time, Masli would step forward to become a living donor.
“There are no other options left. Doctors told us our son’s liver may not last another year.
“For the transplant, they will take about 23 to 33 per cent of my liver to give to my son. I’m ready to do whatever it takes to save him,” he added.
Together with his wife, the family is making an emotional appeal for public support to raise the needed funds.
“Our family humbly pleads with everyone to help us by sharing our story and tagging as many influencers as possible to get their attention.
“We are extremely exhausted and on the verge of giving up in this fight, but we refuse to stop here. We truly, desperately need the support and help of the public,” he wrote in his Facebook post yesterday.
The parents are being guided by Biliary Atresia Malaysia Association (BAMA), which is assisting them with hospital arrangements and the fundraising process.
Donations to help fund Muhammad Fayyadh Hadif’s life-saving liver transplant can be made to BAMA. Contributions may be transferred to Bank Rakyat, account number 1102310504, with the reference “Adik Fayyadh”.
