KUCHING, June 9: Sarawak only needs 7,000 metric tonnes (mt) of green hydrogen produced from the upcoming H2biscus hydrogen plant in Bintulu for domestic use while the remaining estimated 213,000 mt will be exported to South Korea.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed that the plant is currently being developed by South Korean companies Samsung Engineering, POSCO and Lotte Chemical in partnership with Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).

“Once completed, the plant will produce 630,000 mt of green ammonia, 600,000 mt of blue ammonia and 220,000 mt of green hydrogen.

“(Of the green hydrogen produced), 7,000 mt will be for domestic use and the rest will be exported to South Korea,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of Sarawak-Korea Energy Business Forum 2022 at Waterfront Hotel Kuching today.

He also explained that “green” (ammonia) refers to zero-carbon products produced using renewable energy and electrolysis and “blue” to a production method that uses natural gas paired with carbon capture technology to produce low-carbon products. — DayakDaily
