SIBU, Feb 3: The Sarawak government will embark on a working visit to the Netherlands to learn more about flood management later this month, said Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim said that the Dutch government intends to provide technical assistance to the Sarawak government to solve the flood problems here.

He added that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is concerned about the Sibu redevelopment plan and has prepared RM1 billion to implement this plan which would include a large part of Sibu and a lake.

He said this during a Chinese New Year organised by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) at Sibu last night (Feb 2.)

Meanwhile, the Minister of Local Government and Public Health also urged Sibu residents not to migrate to Kuching as the town is expected to flourish.

“I advise Sibu people not to go to Kuching to buy a house because Sibu is about to flourish, and it will be a rich and powerful Sibu by then. This is the Sarawak government’s plan for Sibu,” he said.

He also mentioned that Sarawak had undergone significant changes in the past ten years, from the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s time to Sarawak gaining political and economic independence.

He said Sarawak, under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), has continued to chalk up healthy economic growth.

“In terms of income, it increased from RM7 billion in 2018 to RM11.9 billion in 2022. Sarawak’s oil has brought RM1.2 billion in revenue in the past five years.

“The Sarawak government is a government that makes money for Sarawak and the next generations.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sarawak government has launched a series of packages of up to RM6.7 billion to help people and businesses tide over the difficult time,” he said. — DayakDaily
