Iskandar asked whether the government has plans to build a Yayasan Sarawak International School in Jepak, Bintulu.

The Jepak assemblyman further asked about the academic achievements of students at Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School in international examinations such as the Cambridge Checkpoint test, and how the government plans to ensure the sustainability and quality of education at the new school to be built in Bintulu.

In response to Iskandar’s supplementary questions, Dr Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman, said students of the Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School in Petra Jaya achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in all three subjects, namely English, Mathematics, and Science, in the Cambridge Checkpoint Year 9 examination.

He noted that as the first cohort, the students have shown commendable performance.

On how the government plans to ensure the sustainability and quality of education at the new school in Bintulu, Dr Annuar said the Sarawak government will implement a standardised and comprehensive framework aligned with the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) syllabus, which is used in international schools worldwide.

“The IGCSE syllabus follows the latest developments in teaching and learning pedagogy,” he said.

He added that a monitoring and feedback mechanism will also be implemented periodically to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning, in accordance with Cambridge University standards. — DayakDaily
