KUCHING, April 15: Under the Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), Sarawak aims to register 10,000 new entrepreneurs and enable 30,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt digital platforms by 2030 as part of its drive to build a more competitive and future-ready business ecosystem.

The progress and coordination of these targets were discussed during the Sarawak Entrepreneur Development Coordination Committee (SEDCC) Main Committee Meeting, chaired by Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

According to a media release today, the meeting focused on aligning entrepreneurship development strategies, strengthening cooperation between federal and Sarawak agencies, and accelerating digitalisation among MSMEs to ensure they remain resilient amid global economic challenges.

Since the implementation of the 12th Malaysia Plan, the Sarawak government has allocated RM365.7 million for MSME development, benefiting more than 47,400 entrepreneurs through various initiatives.

MSMEs currently contribute 18 per cent to Sarawak’s gross domestic product (GDP), with both federal and State governments continuing efforts to further enhance their contribution through targeted programmes.

The government has outlined several empowerment initiatives, including capacity and skills development, financial assistance, product development and marketing support, market expansion, and the provision of enabling infrastructure such as industrial estates and business premises.

In addition to strengthening traditional sectors, MSMEs are also being encouraged to venture into emerging industries such as renewable energy, aerospace, digitalisation, and food security, in line with Sarawak’s long-term economic transformation agenda.

These initiatives will be coordinated by a technical committee led by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) to ensure effective implementation and measurable impact.

The Sarawak government has also introduced ENBASE, a one-stop digital platform designed to centralise entrepreneur data and improve access to assistance and development programmes.

Meanwhile, the “Jom Regista Bisnes” initiative continues to be strengthened to encourage formal business registration, particularly among informal entrepreneurs, enabling them to access financing, training, grants, and other government support.

The State government reaffirmed its commitment to building a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem through integrated policies, innovation, and digitalisation to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth. — DayakDaily
