KUCHING, Sept 12: Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) is looking to tap Norwegian expertise in renewable energy and green technology as it develops its 548-acre smart city project in Senadin.
According to TVS, the move follows a courtesy visit by Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd chairman Ar. Teo Ah Khing to Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam Marianne Fosland at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Sept 10).
The meeting explored potential cooperation between Norway, Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, particularly in areas that could support the development of a regional growth corridor.
Discussions focused on three key areas: Norway-Sarawak-Brunei cooperation, renewable energy and sustainability as well as smart city development and regional connectivity.
Potential collaboration includes green technology, climate change solutions, digitalisation, sustainable infrastructure and smart city development.
The initiative also builds on KSC’s cross-border cooperation with Brunei through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in July between Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd and Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd.
The MoU provides a basis for exploring an integrated industrial, logistics and investment ecosystem linking KSC with Muara Port, supporting greater economic integration under the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
KSC said Norwegian involvement could strengthen the technology and sustainability component of the emerging Sarawak-Brunei growth corridor while creating opportunities for long-term investment, technology transfer and expertise sharing.
The smart city project in Senadin encompasses industrial, commercial and residential components, together with supporting facilities.
The international investment initiative is also aligned with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 and efforts to strengthen regional economic integration through BIMP-EAGA.
Also present at the meeting were Norway’s Deputy Head of Mission Knut Øyvind Granli, Royal Norwegian Embassy trainee Andreas Franquillo Hotvedt and Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd Corporate Development Manager Ir. Allex Ng Tian Yi. — DayakDaily
