KUCHING, Sept 12: The Batang Igan Bridge will be temporarily closed from 9.30pm to 1am starting Sept 14–15 and Sept 17–19.
According to a notice issued, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) said the temporary closure is to facilitate pylon structure installation works.
Road users have been advised to plan their journeys and comply with instructions and safety signage at the site during the closure.
As an alternative during the temporary closure, the department has also announced extended operating hours for the Batang Paloh ferry service from Sept 14–19.
The ferry service will operate from 6am to midnight throughout the six-day period.
The notice stated that Ferry 1 will extend its operating hours by four hours, while Ferry 2 and Ferry 3 will continue operating on their usual schedule.
Ferry users have been advised to plan their journeys to avoid congestion at the ferry terminal and to comply with the prescribed ferry standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safety and smooth travel.
