KUCHING, March 19: Sarawak has received 150,000 face masks from China, a returned favour for last year’s generous donation from the state in the struggle with Covid-19 pandemic.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this truly signifies the united efforts between both parties in fighting the Coronavirus.

“At this time last year, Sarawak government, Sarawak Chinese Community and SUPP (Sarawak United People’s Party) donated to China in the spirit of our united war’s effort with China in Covid-19.

“We did not expect to receive the reciprocal of our friendship so soon, in so many ways,” he said.

Adding on, Dr Sim who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing, thanked China for providing additional supplies for the frontliners in Sarawak especially at these dire times when the state is aiming to vaccinate 2.2 million people as soon as possible.

“Thank you very much for the 150,000 face masks for the Sarawak frontliners by the General Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching.

“(This is) truly the spirit of united war’s effort with Sarawak in Covid-19,” he said after receiving the donation at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex yesterday (March 18).

On the boxes of face masks received, there were multiple labels portraying the sincerity of China in this friendship with Sarawak.

One of them illustrated a hornbill and a panda side by side, above some writing that says: “Sarawak, your China Friends are with you!”

Also present during the receiving of donation were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak health director Dr Chin Zin Hing and Sarawak State Security and Enforcement Unit assistant security officer Jaki Mohd Janah. — DayakDaily
