KUCHING, May 18: The First Meeting of the Fourth Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) will be held for eight days from May 19 to May 28, 2025.
DUS Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar today announced that the sitting will take place at Level 8 of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex starting at 9am daily, with no sittings on the weekend (May 24 and 25).
The sitting will commence with an opening ceremony officiated by the Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar on May 19.
“A total of six bills are expected to be tabled during this session, namely Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill, 2025; Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill, 2025; Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2025; Land Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025; Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and Infrastructure Development Trust Fund (Dissolution) Bill, 2025,” he said during a press conference held at the DUS Complex here today.
Asfia further said the question-and-answer (Q&A) sessions will run for four days from May 20 to May 23.
The total number of questions received from the honourable members as of the closing date on May 5 is 320 questions. Both oral and written replies were received from 41 honourable members.
“Of these 320 questions, 247 were for oral replies and 73 for written replies.
“The Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) and Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG) received the most number of questions at 48 questions for each ministry,” he added.
Also present during the press conference were DUS deputy speaker Dato Idris Buang and DUS secretary Nur Azhar Bujang.
In a statement issued afterwards, DUS informed that bills will be tabled by the responsible ministers from May 20 to May 22, while debates on the motion of appreciation will take place from May 21 to May 23.
Ministers will deliver their winding-up speeches from May 26 until the final day of sitting on May 28.
Also on May 22, the assembly will carry out a motion to elect a Senator (Ahli Dewan Negara).
As of the deadline on May 9, the DUS secretariat had received no private motions from assembly members under Standing Order 23. — DayakDaily
