KUCHING, March 11: Sarawak tops the country’s Covid-19 vaccination chart with the most number of vaccinated frontliners, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman said Sarawak’s success in vaccinating 28,194 frontliners so far has earned the praise of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

“We are now the number one state in the nation in terms of the numbers of frontliners already vaccinated. This indicates our programme, arrangement and machinery on the ground are efficient and effective,” he said when visiting Kampung Tringgus which has been placed under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) yesterday.

On the same note, Uggah said the second phase of vaccination program that is expected to begin next month, would depend on the supply of vaccines that the state receives from Kuala Lumpur.

He explained the second phase would be a very massive and complex exercise as it will involve vaccinating some two million of consenting and eligible Sarawakians, including expatriates, and both legal and illegal foreign workers.

“It is going to be a problem if the latter are not vaccinated. We have told Kuala Lumpur of our plan and target to complete our vaccination programme by this August.

“But then again, our plan and target depend on the supplies we get,” stressed Uggah who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health (MOH), as of March 10, Sarawak had administered a total of 28,194 first doses to its frontliners, the most in the country.— DayakDaily
