KUCHING, May 8: The Immigration Department Sarawak detained 16 undocumented migrants during an enforcement operation at two construction sites around Kuching yesterday (may 7).
According to a TVS news report, the operation, which began at 9am, involved 35 enforcement officers of various ranks and was part of the nationwide ‘Ops Gempur Sasar’ initiative, conducted simultaneously across the country.
Sarawak Immigration director Abdul Halim Abang Naili said a total of 113 foreign nationals were inspected during the operation, comprising 102 men and 11 women.
“Based on nationality, six of the men were from Bangladesh, while the remaining 96 men and 11 women were Indonesian nationals,” he said in a statement.
He added that 16 individuals—all Indonesians—were arrested for various immigration offences.
“They include 11 men and five women who were found to have committed offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid passes or permits, and Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for overstaying,” he explained.
Abdul Halim said the operation is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen immigration law enforcement and uphold national security and sovereignty.
He also called on the public to continue cooperating with the authorities by providing accurate and responsible information.
“Every piece of information is valuable in our collective effort to safeguard the nation’s security and well-being,” he added. — DayakDaily
