KUCHING, Oct 25: Sarawak government has inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Univertisi Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus for the establishment of ‘Tok Nan Chair’ (Pehin Seri Adenan Satem Research Chair).
According to a report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the MoA was signed between both party during a courtesy call by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak (MTAC) Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
“This ‘Tok Nan Chair’ is created to recognise and pay tribute to the late Tok Nan, and UPM has been appointed for the creation of the Research Chair with the aim to get a better understanding of the late Tok Nan’s interest in the arts, culture and heritage of Sarawak,” he said during a press conference held after the courtesy call.
Karim noted, UPM will also set up a gallery that displays the history of the late Tok Nan, including a special education funding for students who further their studies in the field of Bachelor’s and Doctoral Degrees.
“Sarawak government has agreed to allocate RM2.4 million for the Tok Nan Chair, for the period of three years,” he added.
Separately, during the courtesy visit, Karim, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, also invited and briefed the Chief Minister regarding ‘The 2nd International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities 2021’ which will be held on Oct 27, 2021 at Grand Margherita, Kuching. — DayakDaily.
