KUCHING, Oct 2: The Sarawak government remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing education, allocating RM22 million in support of Chinese-aided (SJK) schools’ development across the region.
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that this year’s allocation for Chinese Aided Primary Schools has increased to RM12 million, up from RM9 million last year.
“In addition, RM10 million is allocated to to Chinese Aided Secondary Schools, ensuring a bright future for our children,” he said.
He made these remarks during the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Association of Chinese Aided Primary School Management Boards for Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Divisions at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday (Oct 1).
For the record, the Association, which oversees 58 SJK Chung Hua schools in Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian, has played an important and effective role in supporting these institutions.
Association chairman Dato Jonathan Chai noted that over the past 15 years, they have successfully completed the challenging tasks of relocating and rebuilding three schools – SJK Chung Hua Sungai Tapang, SJK Chung Hua Bako and SJK(C) Kai Nang, that were on the verge of closure due to declining student numbers.
“These achievements would not have been possible without the financial support of the Sarawak government and the generous donations from the community,” he said in his speech text.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, Deputy Chinese Consul-General in Kuching Song Chang Hong and Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak president Dato Richard Wee were among the distinguished guests present. — DayakDaily
