KUCHING, Sept 23:  To ensure more inclusive participation in Sarawak Energy’s opportunities in project works for rural electrification, the corporation recently organised a briefing session to raise awareness among eligible contractors on its tender processes and requirements in the sector.

Commenting on the virtual briefing, Sarawak Energy Group CEO Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili said, “This briefing is intended for contractors to build up their competencies in a focused manner by making the requirements and standards clear so they can take up projects.”

The session was attended by more than 100 vendors and representatives from Ministry of Utilities Sarawak, Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak, Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Orang Ulu Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB). It forms part of the energy developer and power utility’s initiatives to make clear its tender processes while increasing the number of eligible participants to expedite rural electrification.

The session focused on Vendor Financing and Sarawak Energy e-Procurement (SEPRO) Pre-Registration Briefing for Additional or Late Applicant Fund (ALAF). ALAF was launched in 2018 by the Sarawak Government to supply electricity to new households or households not covered in earlier Rural Electrification Scheme projects across the state.

“We hope to expand the pool of qualified contractors that can participate in the Rural Electrification projects,” added Sharbini.

Emphasising the importance of meeting safety standards in all projects to ensure an injury free work environment for all, Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili also highlighted that integrity is a deeply held core value for the corporation, and any violation of Sarawak Energy’s ethics standards must be reported.

Sarawak Energy was represented by its Senior Manager from Contract & Procurement department, Raden Chekra Muda Raden Alwie at the briefing.

Sarawak Energy’s Vendor Financing in collaboration with BIMB aims to strengthen local contractors’ financial capacity by providing better access to financing facilities. The briefing participants were also given a step-by-step guide for registration on SEPRO system, the corporation’s procurement digitalisation initiative with an end-to-end integrated platform consolidating all procurement spend from sourcing and orders through invoicing and payment. — DayakDaily
