Sarawak DAP challenged to reveal its stand on PM succession plan

Sim Kiang Chiok

KUCHING, June 27: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch wonders if Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) still supports the arrangement for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take over from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.

Its chairman, Sim Kiang Chiok, said if the state DAP continued to uphold that arrangement, then it should rubbish the statement of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) council member Tan Sri Rais Yatim, who recently said Dr Mahathir’s successor is Minister of Economic Affairs Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, as there is no black and white stating Anwar will be the successor.

“Chairman of the Sarawak PH, who is also chairman of the Sarawak DAP (Chong Chieng Jen), should express his views whether they continue to support Anwar in taking over the prime ministership in two years’ time.

“If they do, he should condemn and criticize Rais’ remarks,” said Sim in a statement.

Sim opined that the state DAP should also voice out against a recent statement by Dr Mahathir who, in a television interview, said he would step down only in three years’ time, even though he denied it later.

“Isn’t it embarrassing that the DAP has not made any statement and response to Rais’ remark, so far. If Rais’ statement is unfounded or not accurate, DAP should ask him to withdraw the statement.

“However, the DAP and other party members of the PH coalition have been quiet and said nothing, which can be construed that Rais’ statement is true, that is Anwar’s succession as prime minister plan has been changed,” he said.

Sim said another possibility why the DAP remains quiet is because the party did not dare to offend the top leaders of Bersatu; thus they turned a blind eye to any decision or action of Bersatu.

“After all, Dr Mahathir is the head of Bersatu and PH and also the prime minister. DAP has ‘to look at Mahathir’s face’ and they dare not offend him,” asserted Sim. — DayakDaily
