KUCHING, April 28: Sarawak is considering inviting Swedish-based company, Holmen AB to capitalise on forest plantation resources in the State.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the forest plantation, thermo mechanical pulp and paper mill company could benefit from Sarawak’s competitive green energy tariff which are the critical success factors for its operation.

“Apart for that, Holmen may also consider making Sarawak an option as a distribution centre to expand their market in the Asia Pacific region,” he said in a statement today.

On April 27, Awang Tengah and his delegation continued their second day in Sweden by visiting a forest plantation and a thermo mechanical pulp and paper mill owned by Holmen AB.

The purpose was to study how Swedish private forest owners integrate their forest plantation management with downstream processing industries.

Holmen’s core business is forest management, production of materials for home construction, pulp, paper and renewable energy generation. — DayakDaily
